Modular Home Advantages

Modular homes are a great alternative to traditional on-site new home construction. Because most of the initial service and work is done in an off-site, climate-controlled factory using an engineered approach to building, these systems built houses offer a more efficient and cost-effective method for building your dream home. After individual, custom-designed modules are created by the manufacturer, they are transported to the building site. A local builder applies the finishing touches after joining the sections together using the same methods and standards used for stick-built houses. The result is that beautiful one and two-story modular homes can be purchased at significantly lower cost per square foot.

Modular Homes – The Process

With a custom modular home, the homeowners have the opportunity to choose specific modules that they want in their home – like a particular bathroom or bedroom layout – you are designing the home but with a modular approach.

Erecting a modular home is a fascinating process. A modular home must meet the same local building codes as a stick built home, it is just that the construction is done, to a large degree, off-site. When the components of your home arrive at your site they will normally have wiring, plumbing, insulation, flooring, windows and doors all in place. The contractors on the site have little actual finishing work to do beyond connecting th modular component together.

Here Are Some Noteworthy Benefits of
Modular Home Construction

Modular Home Benefit #1

Less Site Disturbance – Homes built in a factory limit the amount of time and impact on the surrounding site. This also saves construction time. As the home is being built in the factory, the site can be prepared at the same time.

Modular Home Benefit #2

Tightly Sealed Homes – Because the homes are built in a factory there is better access around electrical outlets, fixtures, pipes and other sources of air infiltration. Having that access in a factory allows better sealing to reduce air infiltration to prevent a loss of heat when the home is complete to reduce heating and cooling costs.

Traditional two-by-four framing is often replaced with two-by-six framing in modular homes to increase the amount of insulation included in the home.

Modular Home Benefit #3

Energy Star – Because of their design, your home could be Energy Star Certified. Many manufactures are now designing their house in order to earn the blue Energy Star.

Energy Star (trademarked ENERGY STAR) is a program run by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) that promotes energy efficiency.

The program provides information on the energy consumption of products and devices using different standardized methods. The Energy Star label is found on more than 75 different certified product categories, homes, commercial buildings, and industrial plants. In the United States, the Energy Star label is also shown on the Energy Guide appliance label of qualifying products.
